Heather Koss-Huisman (B.Mus., A.Mus., RMT)

This year marks Heather's year of professional teaching. Before moving to Lake Country in July 2018, Heather maintained a studio of over 60 students, was the music director at Russell United Church and taught general music classes at four elementary schools in Eastern Ontario.

Heather began piano lessons at age four and achieved her grade 1 Royal Conservatory piano exam at age 7. By age 14, she had attained her grade 9 piano and had begun teaching. Throughout her teens, she also held a part-time church position, accompanied various instrumentalists for their conservatory exams and accompanied a church choir several times a year for their Christmas and Easter cantatas.

Heather is a classically trained pianist who achieved her B.Mus. designation from Wilfrid Laurier University in 1994 and concurrently earned her A.Mus. from the Western Board of Music.

Heather is MYCC certified and has taught the Music for Young Children program for more than 15 years. She is a member of the BC Registered Music Teachers Association and the Music Teachers National Association. Heather is certified by the Royal Conservatory of Music as an Intermediate Specialist in Theory and an Advanced Specialist in Piano. She also received a Top Teacher award from Steinway and Sons in 2016.

Heather's goal is to foster a lifelong love of music in each of her students.
